The Gwen and Jules Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery opened in 2009. The ten-story building contains flexible laboratory and office space designed to encourage cross-fertilization between labs, conference and lecture halls, core facilities, common spaces, and a vivarium. The facility is part of the Knapp Research Complex, a cluster of buildings that also includes the Donnelley Biological Sciences Learning Center and the Jules F. Knapp Medical Research Center.
The Gwen and Jules Knapp Center for Biomedical Discovery is named in honor of Gwen and Jules Knapp, longtime supporters of the University of Chicago Medicine. Gwen served as a life member of the Division of the Biological Sciences and Pritzker School of Medicine Advisory Council at the University of Chicago. Jules served as a life trustee on the University of Chicago Medical Center Board of Trustees.
