The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is a leading national organization with a focus on cultivating and supporting a community of outstanding scientists who conduct basic science research to understand the fundamentals of biology. Located at the Gordon Center for Integrative Science, the HHMI at the University of Chicago supports researchers at the University and fosters collaboration across the biological and physical sciences.
The HHMI was founded in 1953 by Howard R. Hughes, an aircraft industrialist and philanthropist.
