Shattuck, Henry

The Abbott Memorial Fund for the endowment of research in the biological sciences was established in the year 1939 by Alfred W. Bays and Henry B. Shattuck, as trustees under the will of Clara A. Abbott in the execution of her purpose to perpetuate the memory of her husband, Wallace C. Abbott, MD, founder of the Abbott Laboratories and to benefit the cause of medical surgical and chemical science.

Abbott Memorial Hall

Built in 1940, 5812 South Ellis Avenue once housed the departments of physiology, pharmacology, and physiological chemistry. Today it is home to the University of Chicago Neuroscience Institute and the Graduate Medical Education Office; it also serves as an entrance to the Peck Pavilion as well as the Abbott Memorial Hall.
